Edit Match Results
Learn how to manually drag and match files from the Files sidebar to specific rows in your workpapers.
Manually drag files from the Files sidebar onto specific workpaper rows when you need precise control over matching.
Manual matching is available to auditors on workpapers with document matching enabled. Client contributors can upload files, but only auditors can pair them with specific rows.
Overview
Manual matching provides direct control over which documents support which sample rows.
Drag and drop
Drag files from the sidebar onto the correct row in the workpaper grid.
Override automation
Replace suggested matches when the AI selected the wrong document.
Handle unmatched items
Manually link evidence when automation leaves rows empty.
Immediate processing
Related automations (prompts, formulas) re-run automatically after the drop.
Before you begin
Verify file is ready
- Confirm the file exists in the document group linked to your sample
- Check file status badge shows Ready (OCR complete)
- Ensure the file has finished processing
If the file is still processing, wait for OCR to complete before attempting manual matching.
Open the target row
- Navigate to the workpaper grid
- Find the row you want to support with evidence
- Expand any child rows if needed
Drag files to rows
Start dragging
- Hover over the file in the Files sidebar
- Click and hold to start dragging
- Move your cursor over the workpaper grid
Eligible rows highlight automatically to show where the file can be dropped.
Drop on the correct row
- Position the file over the target row
- The row highlights to indicate it accepts the file
- Release to drop and create the match
Confirm the destination
Child row drop
File links to the same parent record as that child row.
Parent row drop
If multiple child datasets exist, Agentive prompts you to choose which one.
Single-path parent
When only one destination exists, the file attaches automatically.
After the drop
Review the match
- The workpaper grid refreshes and shows the file as matched
- A link to the source document appears in the cell
- The match is now visible to reviewers
Automatic processing
- Related AI prompts re-run for that record
- Formulas recalculate based on new matches
- The file tile updates its match count
Manual matches trigger the same automations as automatic matches—prompts and formulas process immediately.
Manage manual matches
Remove a single match
- Click the matched cell in the grid
- Select Remove match from the menu
- The row returns to unmatched status
Removing a match doesn't delete the file—it just unlinks it from that row.
Clear all matches
From grid:
- Select multiple rows
- Click Clear all matches from the toolbar
From sidebar:
- Right-click the file
- Select Clear all matches for this file
Clearing all matches for a file unlinks it from every row it currently supports.
Adjust page ranges
- Click the matched cell
- Select Edit page range
- Specify which pages apply to this row
- Save the adjusted range
Use page ranges when only part of a multi-page document applies to a specific sample item.
Troubleshooting
Best practices
Use for exceptions
Manual matching is for overrides—most matches should come from automation.
Verify before dropping
Review the file contents before dropping to ensure it's the correct evidence.
Document overrides
Add comments explaining why you manually matched instead of using automation.
Adjust page ranges
Always set page ranges for multi-page documents to link only relevant pages.
